Dear my readers, Today I want to share with you the facts about migraine diseases ('Kipanda uso' in Swahili), this disease face many people and most of them don't know how handle it, they only use Pain killers to reduce pain. Later on this post you will see different natural remedies that used to treat Migraine permanently. Firstly let me explain in detail about the meaning of the disease and its characteristics. You are welcome!
A migraine is a severe and painful headache or a headache disorder formed by recurrent headaches that are moderate to severe. Typically, the headaches affect one half of the head. The pain last from two to 72 hours. The pain is generally made worse by physical activity. Up to one-third of people have typically a short period of visual disturbance (known as 'aura' ) that the headache will soon occur. Normally, an aura can occur with little or no headache.
It is an inherited tendency to have headaches with sensory disturbance. It’s an instability in the way the brain deals with incoming sensory information, and that instability can become influenced by physiological changes like sleep, exercise and hunger.
It is normally begin in childhood, adolescence or early adulthood. Migraines may progress through the following four stages;
1. Prodrome
This stage occurs one or two days before a migraine, you may notice physiological changes that warn of an upcoming migraine, including: Neck stiffness, Increased thirst and urination, Frequent yawning, Constipation, Mood changes, from depression to euphoria and Food cravings.
2. Aura
It may occur before or during migraines. Auras are symptoms of the nervous system. They are usually visual disturbances, such as flashes of light or wavy, zigzag vision. Most people experience migraines without aura.
3. Headache or Attack or Migraine
This stage usually lasts from four to 72 hours if untreated. It is the pick or worse condition of the disease (Migraine), the frequency with which headaches occur varies from person to person. Migraines may be rare, or strike several times a month. During a migraine, you may experience the following; Nausea and vomiting, Blurred vision, Lightheadedness, sometimes followed by fainting, Post-drome, Pain on one side or both sides of your head, Pain that feels throbbing or pulsing, Sensitivity to light, sounds, and sometimes smells and touch.
4. Post-drome
It is the final stage of the disease, occurs after a migraine attack. You may feel drained and washed out, while some people feel elated. For about 24 hours, you may also experience the following; Dizziness, Weakness, Sensitivity to light and sound, Confusion, Moodiness.
NB:
Sometimes you may not experience all stages.
CAUSES
The causes of Migraine are based on Genetics and Environmental factors, it may be caused by changes in the brainstem and its interactions with the trigeminal nerve, a major pain pathway. Imbalances in brain chemicals including serotonin, which helps regulate pain in your nervous system.
The following are some possible causes of Migraine;
1. Alcohol
Wine and highly caffeinated beverages may trigger migraines.
2. Hormonal changes in women
Changes in estrogen seem to trigger headaches in many women. Women with a history of migraines often report headaches immediately before or during their periods, when they have a major drop in estrogen.
3. Stress
Stress at work or home can cause migraines.
4. Food additives
The sweetener aspartame and the preservative monosodium glutamate (MSG), found in many foods, may trigger migraines
5. Hormonal medications
Oral contraceptives and hormone replacement therapy, also may worsen migraines. Some women find their migraines occur less often when taking these medications.
6. Sensory stimuli
Bright lights and sun glare can induce migraines, as can loud sounds. Strong smells including perfume, paint thinner, secondhand smoke and others can trigger migraines in some people.
7. Environment
Change of weather or barometric pressure can prompt a migraine.
8. Sex
Women are three times more likely to have migraines. Headaches tend to affect boys more than girls during childhood, but by the time of puberty and beyond, more girls are affected.
9. Age
Kind of age my trigger Migraine to occur, though the first often occurs during adolescence. Migraines tend to peak during your 30s, and gradually become less severe and less frequent in the following decades.
10. Family history
If you have a family member with migraines, then you have a good chance of developing them too.
SYMPTOMS
1. An intense headache on one side of the head (Is the main symptom). The pain is usually a moderate or severe throbbing sensation that gets worse when you move and prevents you from carrying out normal activities. In some cases, the pain can occur on both sides of your head and may affect your face or neck.
2. Vomiting
3. Nausea
4. Abnominal pain
5. Diarrhoea
NB:
The above symptoms are just few, you may experience few or more others than those ones.
NATURAL TREATMENTS FROM HOME REMEDIES
1. Ginger tea
Ginger is an important herbal plant for treating many diseases, It has been used for centuries worldwide as a medicinal plant. It is used to reduce stress and help to balance hormone in the body. Also help for muscles expansion and preventing blood infections.
How to use?
(a) Grind 2 to 5 fresh ginger, boil them in hot water then save tea (Don't mix ginger with coffee or other tea ingredients). Drink one cup, three times a day for at least a week. You will see recovery after a day.
(b) Sometimes you may chew one piece of ginger if you have sudden painful, it will remove your tiredness and pain.
2. Ice block
Some people may wonder how comes Ice block be in the list? Ice block remove your painfull fast and easy.
How to use?
(a) Take a small clean cloth, tie with ice block within that cloth.
(b) Place that cloth with ice block at the forehead, slide it slowly to the neck and back to forehead again, do this for atleast 15 minutes.
** Follow the above procedure at the moment you feel painful.
3. Chili pepper (Pilipili kichaa) and Lemon
Chili pepper have an important medicinal property for treatment migraine and increasing blood flow in the body. Also act as a natural pain killers in the body. Lemon juice is mixed with Chili pepper extract.
How to use?
(a) Prepare a half chili pepper and put in hot boiled water
(b) Mix Lemon juice with the mixture in 'a' above
(c) Drink one cup of the mixture [a + b], once per day for at least one week.
4. Apple
It is the famous fruit worldwide, due it's medicinal property. Apple help for treating many diseases. For Migraine case, eat apple fruit soon as disease began. Various research have shown that, smelling a green apple skin, help to reduce Migraine pain.
5. Sesame oil (Mafuta ya ufuta) and Cinnamon powder (Unga wa mdalasini) & Cardamom powder (Unga wa Iliki)
Sesame oil and Cinnamon powder help to remove Migraine pain and normal headache by doing simple massage. Doing massage at forehead help to breakup painful signal to brain.
Also doing Massage help to increase the performance of Serotonin hormone in the body. Serotonin hormone play a role in mantaining normal working condition of the brain.
How to use?
(a) Warm two table spoon of Sesame oil on cooker.
(b) Take half spoon of Cinnamon powder and mix with half spoon of Cardamom powder
(c) Take the mixture in 'b' put in warm sesame oil
(d) Rub the mixture in 'c' on forehead and start massaging yourself slowly
(e) After a while, stop massaging and leave the head for an hour
(f) Wash your head with warm water
** Do the above procedures once per day until you recover.
